Falls Church gained township status within Fairfax County in 1875 and was incorporated as the City of Falls Church in 1948.
The city is an independent municipality, separate from the surrounding Arlington and Fairfax Counties and operates under the Council-Manager form of government. It is one of the two geographically smallest cities in Virginia, at only 2.2 square miles. With a population of almost 14,658 (as of the 2020 Census), the city is known for its walkability, urban village community, nationally ranked school system, environmental activism, and endless community activities.
Falls Church is easily accessed by Routes 66 and 50, the East and West Falls Church Metro Stations (Orange Line), and by several bus routes. City Hall is located only nine miles from the White House.
